On Stop Killing Games

I feel like I need to say something, being on the opposite side of the argument of another former Activision-Blizzard employee.

We are planning already in having the game available after servers eventually and inevitably die, considering Unreal usually uses amazon servers, We are building in old school IP connections and will be working on old school dedicated server stuff. Think how Unreal Tournament 2003/2004 still allows to this day to have private servers, IP connections and more.

I’m tired of reading these absolutely stupid fucking arguments from people who either don’t work on games or idiots who misrepresent the movement.

Now, that being said, I agree, games should be left in a reasonable state for consumers. Single player games with always online components are a failure of a company to understand the market. Until scummy practitioners die out, like Ubisoft is currently speedrunning with its reputation, we will have to deal with this longer term.

I am currently adding some old school connection stuff (Peer to Peer, etc) just in case AWS gets shittier: (https://www.tomshardware.com/software/cloud-storage/aws-accused-of-a-digital-execution-after-it-deleted-10-years-of-users-data-without-warning-software-engineer-details-complete-digital-annihilation-at-the-hands-of-aws-admins-claims-false-excuses-given-for-account-deletion) (Thanks to Ross Scott for sharing this) I’m debating the best way moving forward to preserve user data.
